Stanton Optical Donates Eyeglasses to New Eyes for the Needy

New eyes for the needy

Stanton Optical recently donated 917 pairs of used eyeglasses to the charitable group New Eyes. According to their website: “Since our founding in 1932, New Eyes for the Needy has brought improved vision and hope for a better future to more than 7,900,000 people in the U.S. and around the world. New Eyes is a non-profit, non-sectarian volunteer organization.”

New Eyes for the Needy accepts donations of glasses in good condition. Volunteers clean and sort the eyeglasses and distribute them to charitable organizations and medical missions throughout the world. The eyeglasses are given out to poor people in developing nations who don’t otherwise have access to secure much need prescription eyewear.

New Eyes President Clelia Biamonti, Ph. D. sent a thank you note to Stanton Optical that read in part: “Thank you for your support of New Eyes for the Needy’s programs to improve the vision of poor children and adults in the United States and around the world. Donated used eyeglasses are tested and sorted by some of our 250 adult and student volunteers for distribution by large charitable organizations and small medical missions in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Central Europe.”

The organization also accepts donations of jewelry, watches, giftware, hearing aids and precious metals.
