PALM SPRINGS, Fla., June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ – Lions Club International changes lives one pair of glasses at a time through their Recycle for Sight program. People can give their old eyeglasses to the humanitarian group at official collection points located throughout the United States.

Optical retailer Stanton Optical has eyeglass donation boxes set up at the majority of their stores. Many of their customers donate their used glasses to the Lions Club when they come in for a new pair of prescription eyeglasses. Stanton’s Fresno, California store also donates all their restyles and eyeglass remakes to the charity program.

Deborah Richards, General Manager of Stanton Optical in Augusta, Georgia says that “Augusta has a donation box. We have been collecting for the Lions Club for almost three years.  I would estimate around 1,000 pairs have been donated.  We have people who come in just to donate their glasses and patients are always eager to donate their old glasses.”

Stanton Optical is hoping to extend the program to more of their stores. For example, Wendy Smith, General Manager of theEvansville, Indiana store is waiting for a representative from the Lions Club to drop off an official donation box. Wendy mentions, “We have been accepting glasses for the Lions Club for about 6 months.  We only receive about 5 pairs per month, however, the Lion’s Club representative is supposed to be bringing by a Lions Club box that will promote the donation and will be visible to the patients so I imagine this number will grow.”
