Retail Optical Store Partners with ECHO Community Health Care and New Eyes for the Needy to Provide Free Eye Exams and Free Eyeglasses to People in Need
EVANSVILLE, Ind., June 4, 2013 — Stanton Optical’s Evansville, Indiana store recently partnered with ECHO Community Health Care to accept eye exam referrals for uninsured, under insured and homeless patients. Stanton Optical provides the patients with a free eye examination and a copy of their eyeglass prescription to take back to their counselor at ECHO. The counselor applies for a voucher for free eyeglasses from New Eyes for the Needy.
The voucher program covers the cost of a basic pair of single or lined bifocal eyeglasses at no out-of-pocket cost to the patient. When the patient returns to Stanton Optical with their New Eyes voucher, they can choose a pair of glasses from the store’s value frame collection. Participating stores return the redeemed coupons to New Eyes for reimbursement.
Evansville General Manager Wendy Smith mentions, “this process is fairly new for us as I just set this agreement up with them 2 weeks ago. We have seen their exam referrals ever since we started promoting a free eye exam and just started the agreement for accepting the vouchers recently.”
ECHO is a non-profit 501c3 agency with 5 locations throughout Evansville, including their main campus on Mulberry Street. The community health care organization relies on donations to offer affordable, accessible and necessary health care to people in need.
